Carla Hubbard brings over 40 years of experience working with young children as an elementary teacher, school counselor, assistant principal, and principal. After receiving her Bachelor's degree from Indiana State University, she continued her education by earning a Master of Science in School Counseling from Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. There, she furthered her education by earning certifications in School Administration and Educational Neuroscience and earning the distinction of Licensed Mental Health Counselor. Most recently, she earned an Educational Specialist’s Degree in Counseling Leadership with an emphasis on Play Therapy from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) in Oxford, Mississippi.
Carla is distinguished by her extensive experience with young children and her exclusive use of the innovative psychotherapeutic approach, Play Therapy. This unique therapy typically targets children ages 3 to 11 with social, emotional, or behavioral difficulties.
In addition, she offers “Positive Parenting” workshops (inspired by mentor Rebecca Eanes), complete with workbooks and homework. These workshops provide parents with concrete tools to help grow self-discipline, connection, and empathy in their children and themselves. They also learn techniques that help families be their best, by learning about the five pillars of parenting: attachment, respect, proactive parenting, empathetic leadership, and positive discipline.
Carla's experiences have instilled in her a deep understanding of the importance of giving young children a voice. She has learned that they often struggle to express their needs and emotions verbally, as adults do in 'talk therapy.' For them, play is their primary language. In a therapeutic environment, Carla ensures that their needs, thoughts, and feelings are brought to the surface and effectively addressed.
She enjoys music of all kinds, especially live music, and spends any free moments with her family and friends—mostly laughing!
